I didnt find either of them in the 1860 census in Nash County or anywhere else in North Carolina in the 1860 census, even though there were free blacks and mulattoes living in North Carolina before the Civil War in several county districts, including Mannings, Collins, Dortchess, Sullivans District, and Winsteads.
