We walked in, fell in love with the van and wanted to take it then and there as we had traveled from Canberra. Drove to BorderVillage but no mechanic there or help, and at Eucla the mechanic was playing golf on a bush gold link somewhere (not the NullaborLinks) and was not expected back for some time. When I got to the border inspection they made me undo all the ropes and lift the roof a bit so they could inspect inside (bummer), the girl inspector crawled inside the partly open roof to check the fridge, at least I didn't have to lift the whole roof and only had to re-secure the ropes. It has the raised suspension which I think basically just raised the ground clearance of the van and has a slightly heavier chassis. It happened to me on my last journey. Another thing to consider is, there are a lot of areas of the avan roof that when closed down will let in dust if the Seals are not up to scratch. He also promised to replace the rear right hand side fly screen and advised they had replaced the Awning. I will never buy another product from this company. 0 kg. On inspecting the window from outside, I saw that thealuminium rivets holding the hinges on top of the window had worn through and all three hinges had nothing holding them except for the lower window locks. If I had turned out of the carpark into the wind I have no doubt that the window would have ripped off and would have gone over the cliff into the drink. Hi guys, by now I realise that there are a few Avan owners on the the forum and I am wondering if anyone has had to replace the high density adhesivefoam on side roof panels? Like Doug said, the height when folded down is a bonus as it can fit into the average carport/garage when down, unlike some caravans etc, however unless the roof is particularly high or has been modified (I saw one that had the middle of the carport roof raised in an A shape) it cannot have the roof raised, although a partial raising can be achieved if you don't mind crawling in and out. One thing I like with having the roof down for travel, is the door cannot open and swing out as the roof slides over the top of the door, better security too if the roof is padlocked at the locking points. Our old van has done most off the roads such as GRR four times , GCR three times, Borroloola Roper Road. Or get the Avan agent near you to replace them, they have to replace the Bungee Cord as well when doing this job. Try to get one with windout windows both back and front, and two or three roof hatches for flow through ventilation and better still with aircon if you can. I had a Heron 2.2 fitted to mine under the table, later many went with the ducted under bed aircon. Don't believe the guff about the peaked roof acting like a chimney to make it cooler inside, like any van, in hot weather they are hot.
